Vienna's City Hall, or the Wien Rathaus in German, is the seat of the mayor and city council of Vienna.
Built between 1872 and 1883 in the Gothic style, it has a tower called the Rathausmann, which is one of the symbols of Vienna. Inside the Rathaus there are a number of impressive state rooms and halls.
It is possible for visitors to take a tour of this building and these rooms. The tour covers the Council Chamber, where council members convene, the Stone Halls, Festival Hall where large scale events like concerts and balls take place, the Senate Chamber and the Grand Staircase as well as others. The best thing about this tour is that it is free!
Near the Rathaus is one of Vienna's city parks, the Rathauspark. Here also is Rathausplatz, an outdoor square used for a number of events throughout the year, including the Vienna Christmas Markets which draw large crowds from all over the world.
