Erzherzog Karl Denkmal, Heldenplatz

Created by Franz Joesph in the late 19th century, Heldenplatz is well known for the square where Hitler announced the annexation of Austria to the German Reich in 1938.

As its focal point, the square has two huge statues of the great Austrian military leaders, Archduke Charles and Price Eugene, on horseback.

Heldenplatz is near a number of other Vienna attractions such as the Imperial Palace, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Fine Art and the Vienna Town Hall (Rathaus).
