The Salzburg Grosses Festspielhaus (Salzburg Great Festival House in English) is a large hall in the center of Salzburg. It is almost 100 meters wide, which makes it one of the largest of its kind in the world
Originally it was built to the plans of architect Clemens Holzmeister, and was opened in 1960 to Richard Strauss' "Roesenkavalier" under the direction of Herbert von Karajan.
Today, the Festspielhaus hosts a number of events, operas and of course festivals. The Easter Festival, Whitsun festival and Advent Concerts are all held here.
The Grosses Festspielhaus is located in the center of Salzburg, backed up against the Möchsberg.
