The almost 400 year old St Peters Cemetery contains the graves and crypts of a number of famous Salzburgers, including Mozart’s sister and Santino Solari, the architect of the Salzburg Cathedral.
Above the cemetery, carved into the walls of the Mönchsberg rock face, are probably the most interesting features to see here – the Catacombs.
The Catacombs are most likely of early Christian origin and were created as a place of secure storage and also that of interning the dead. For a small admission fee (free with the Salzburg Card), you can walk through these ancient man made caves and view the murals and alters that still exist here.
