New Jewish Cemetery

In the late 19th century, the Old Jewish Cemetery was reaching its limit, and a new cemetery needed to be built. A new space was found in Prague's 3rd district and from here the New Jewish Cemetery was founded and began to grow.

There are about 100,000 graves here, but most visitors come to see the grave of Franz Kafka, one of the major fiction writers of the 20th century.

Another point of interest here is the memorial for the Czechoslovakian Jews who were either murdered or died in concentration camps during World War II.

Unlike many Prague attractions, it isn't easy to reach the cemetery on foot, as it is located somewhat out of the city center. However, it is easily reached with the subway, line A to Zelivského.
