The Kavarna Slavia is a Prague coffee house which is steeped in history and tradition. It first opened in 1881 and has continued to serve Czech and international food of a very high standard, though not necessarily at an exorbitant price.
Although the food is excellent, many people visit because of the atmosphere surrounding the establishment. It enjoys one of the best settings of any building in Prague with the National Theatre across the street, the Vltava River close by and views of Prague Castle from its large windows. Charles Bridge is a five minute walk away.
Throughout its history, it has attracted a rich collection of intellectuals, actors, international guests and notable Czech residents. Many would come to discuss important political events or unwind after their performances at the theatre.
The café opens early for breakfast and continues to serve a wide variety of food throughout the day and into the evening. Entertainment in the afternoon and evening is provided in the form of classical piano performances, which adds to the old world feel of the place.
The Kavarna Slavia is richly and romantically decorated in art deco style and can accommodate up to 350 patrons. The walls are filled with painting and photographs, some showing famous people who have frequented the café.
You will be very impressed, not only by the quality and range of food available but also with the atmosphere and beauty of the building and surrounding area.
