The Estates Theater (locally know as Stavovsky divaldo) is one of the three major theater venues in Prague. Built in the 18th century in the neo-classical style, it still today one of the most beautiful theaters in the city, and in fact Europe.
Mozart is central to the history of the Estates Theater, when he was first drawn here to perform the famous "The Marriage of Figaro". It was well known that Mozart had a soft spot for Prague, and in particular this theater, even debuting one of his most famous compositions, Don Giovanni, here in 1787. Many of the scenes in the film "Amadeus" about the life of Mozart were filmed in this theater.
Today, you can still buy tickets to see the same performances that Mozart led all those years ago, as well as ballet and other cultural events. Tickets to Mozart's operas normally cost between 1000czk and 1500czk, and tickets can be purchased either in advance or on the night at the box office in front of the theater. There are only 650 seats inside, and some shows can be sold out well in advance of the performance date, so it's best not to leave it to the last minute.
The theater is located just a few minutes walk away from Wenceslas Square, which can be reached with the subway to station Mustek.
