Eating Out

Munich offers a range of international food, as well as local Bavarian specialities.

If you're looking for something local, then here are some typical dishes:

  • Weisswurst is a white sausage eaten at breakfast, usually with a Brezen (large Pretzel), and often with a Weisbier (wheat beer)
  • Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) or Schweinsbraten (roast pork) with Knödel (dumpings) and Sauerkraut is a popular dinner dish
  • For a snack, a Leberkäsesemmel is always good to try. Leberkäs is a type of meatloaf, and it will be served in a breadroll with either sweet or spicy mustard. You can buy these all over town, or specifically look out of Vinzenzmurr (a delicatessen chain) shops which are dotted all over the place.

Any Bavarian restaurant can offer you the aforementioned dishes.
