One of Ireland's most popular drinks and export is Jameson Whiskey. Even if you are not a lover of the drink, a tour of the Old Jameson Distillery is certainly worth the visit.
The building, constructed in 1780, has plenty of character and was once known as the largest and best distillery in the world. Although it is no longer a working distillery, as the commercial whiskey is made elsewhere, its carefully choreographed tours do a good job of capturing the atmosphere of the whiskey making process.
The informative tour takes about an hour and covers the whole production process, from the basic ingredients to the final product. You may wish to linger for longer and enjoy the warm surrounds of the bar and restaurant. At the end of the official tour you will find yourself at the Jameson Bar where you will be offered a complimentary whiskey.
The tour also covers the history of the whiskey from the time of its founder, James Jameson, through to modern times.
There is a gift shop mainly selling Jameson brand name products and if you have purchased the Dublin Pass, entry here is free.
