For any beer fans in Amsterdam, a visit to the Heineken experience is an absolute must.

The attraction is an interactive museum set inside Heineken's historic 19th century brewery. It looks at the technology and processes that go into making a bottle of the popular Heineken beer, all the way from growing the necessary ingredients through to printing the label onto the bottles.

Heineken is one of the world's most famous beers, with more than 4 billion pints being brewed each year, so the interesting history of the company is also covered in some detail within a number of displays.

There is a real focus on interactivity throughout many of the exhibits, with the designers of the museum obviously very keen to give you a firsthand experience of the brewing processes. Whilst learning the science behind fermentation you are encouraged to get involved and stir the ingredients together yourself, and even have a taste of the liquid before it is brewed. In one section you are taught how to appreciate beer, with a tasting tutorial and a master-class in pouring the perfect pint.

As a visitor you are also taken into a small 4D cinema where you experience what it would be like to live the life of a bottle of beer, with water spray, bubbles and moving platforms bringing the brewing process alive.

Beer lovers will be delighted to know that there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a pint of Heineken as you walk around the building. There are two bars within the museum, and you receive two complimentary half-pints during your visit. The World Bar at the end of the tour is the most popular, as you can enjoy your complimentary pint whilst looking at panoramic views of various international cities that are featured on the walls. Personalized bottles of Heineken can also be ordered, where your custom message or name is printed onto the label.

The Heineken experience is a very popular attraction, and unsurprisingly can get very busy. It is best to arrive early in the day wherever possible. To get full value for money out of your visit, it is also a good idea not to drive – you may miss out on some of the tasting sessions and complimentary drinks if you do.
