If you enjoy outdoor market shopping and also historical sites then make sure you put Albert Cuypmarkt on your itinerary. It is the largest market in Amsterdam with well over 400 stalls lining Albert Cuypstraat.
It dates back to the early part of the 20th century and the ambience of the street holds much of the same charm as it did when it began. It is situated in the Pijp district of Amsterdam, which is a hive of activity.
The range of goods on offer is amazing. They include a wide variety of food products both international and local, new and second hand clothes, antiques, tools, flowers, home decorator goods and no end of miscellaneous items. The chocolates and cheeses are scrumptious.
The market is surrounded by lots of shops, many selling discounted goods, so the area is a good place to negotiate a bargain.
Due to its popularity, the markets can get extremely busy especially on Saturdays. They are open every day except for Sundays from about 9am. They start to close the stalls at about 4:30pm and most of the traders will be closed by 5:00pm.
