Judenplatz is located in the center of Jewish Vienna, where the Jewish ghettos were located during medieval times.
Today, it is an important place of remembrance, with three significant sights here to see.
The first of which is the Rachel Whiteread's Memorial. This monument is dedicated to the 65,000 Austrian Jews that were killed in the Holocaust. This bunker like structure sits in the center of the square, and contains the locations where Jews were systematically killed during the Nazi era.
The Judenplatz Museum and Excavations also stands on this square. The excavations here show parts of a 14th century Synagogue that can be viewed in underground in the museum. The museum itself specializes in medieval Jewry in Vienna.
