The Haus der Musik (House of Music) is located directly in the center of the city - a fitting place for such an exhibit, seeing as Vienna is generally known as the world capital of music.
The Haus der Musik is dubbed as an "interactive discovery museum", with hands on exhibits covering 5000 square meters where visitors can experience a wide range of sounds and music. You can pick up virtual baton and conduct your own orchestra, or test out different types of sounds in the acoustics hall.
Many of the displays here are related to the famous Vienna musicians, such as Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart and Haydn.
The museum is located in the former palace of Archduke Charles, and has a music history as well. The palace was the birthplace of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Otto Nicolai composed the opera "The Merry Wives of Windsor" here.
The Haus der Musik is open every day of the year, and is only a short walk from Stephansdom.
