The Mirabell Christkindlmarkt takes place beside the Mirabell Palace in central Salzburg.
Along with the traditional mix of Christmas stalls selling handmade decorations, there are food and drink stalls selling the well known Glühwein, roasted chestnuts, almonds and other traditional Austrian festive foods.
This Christmas Market is well known for its performances, which happen almost every day here. Popular are the performances involving "Turmbläser", or wind instruments, played by different groups at different times.
The 6th of December in Austria is St Nicolas Day, which for Austrians is actually the day that St Nicolas visits children and gives out small gifts. Following this tradition, St Nicolas also shows up at the Mirabell Christmas Market on this day and gives out sweets to the children.
The Mirabell Christkindlmarkt is located on the north side of the Salzbach, not far from Salzburg's main train station (Hauptbahnhof).
