Dancing House in Prague

The Dancing House is an example of probably the most unusual architecture to the found in Prague, and is an example of the new, modern side of the city.

The spot where the building stands today was once occupied by townhouses, but in 1945 towards the end of the war they were destroyed and the land lay bare for many years.

The building was planned and built between 1992 and 1996 to the plans of Frank Gehry. It is an example of deconstructivist architecture, and has been given its name due to the fact that it was designed to look like a man and a woman dancing.

Today the Dancing House is used mainly for office space, and most of the inside cannot be visited. However, one of the city's best French restaurants, Laperle, is located on the roof and offers excellent views over the river and up towards the castle.

The building is located right next to the river, on the east embankment two bridges south of Charles Bridge, and can be reached most easily with the subway to station Karlovo namesti.
