The Prague City Museum details the history of the city from its beginnings in prehistoric times until the late 18th century.
The museum has a number of historic artifacts which detail the lives of the people of ancient Prague, as well as a large section detailing medieval times that focus on the construction of the Prague Castle complex.
The highlight of the museum is the incredibly detailed paper model of the city that was created by Antonin Langweil in 1826. The model took over 11 years to build, and is comprised of thousands of buildings over a two square meter canvas. The detail involved in the work of art is truly amazing, with intricacies such as lanterns or broken windows adding to its realism.
The museum is located in the Prague's 8th district, which is only a few hundred meters away from the Old Town Center. It can also be reached easily by subway or tram.
