Käfer's Wies'n Schänke is arguably the most up-market and prestigious tent at the Oktoberfest. It is run by Michael Käfer, whose family is also responsible for the famous Käfer Delicatessen in the center of Munich.
This is where Munich's upper class and famous hang out, and as such, it can be difficult to get a reservation here or a seat inside if you don't have one. There are only 1000 seats inside, making this the smallest of the main tents at the festival.
It is not your traditional tent as such but rather a large wooden cottage, with many walkways and different rooms spread around inside creating a cozy but maze-like space inside. There are no beer benches inside, rather it is set out more like a mountain restaurant.
If you do manage to get a reservation, you should expect to pay a much larger minimum per head than the other tents – over €40 for morning and afternoon sessions, and over €80 for the evening ones per person.
Paulaner Oktoberfestbier is served here, and the menu is extensive and of excellent quality – however get ready to pay good money for it.
Käfer's Wies'n Schänke is open later than the other tents, daily until 1am. However, if you think you'll get in here after the other tents are closed, then you should probably think again. Unless you are a celebrity or know someone at the door, it's likely you'll be heading home with the rest of the punters.
