The new BMW Welt replaces the old BMW Museum, which since its opening in 1973 saw many millions of visitors making it the most popular museum in Munich after the Deutsche Museum.

The building itself is an architectural wonder, with a 28 meter high double cone spiral on the east side of the building. The new museum inside BMW Welt is 5 times as large as the old museum, offering over 5000sqm of space for the BMWs of the past.

In addition to the new museum, BMW World houses the new 'delivery center' where people from around the world can take possession of their new BMW direct from the factory.

Entry into BMW World is free, however there is a cost associated with taking the tour. During the tour, the visitor will gain access to areas not possible otherwise. The tour consists of visiting the actual plant where BMW's are made, but also where the cars and motorbikes are designed by teams of engineers.

The official BMW Shop is also on the premises. Here official merchandise can be bought, some of which is unique to BMW Welt and not found anywhere else.

BMW World is beside the Olympia Park, and can be reached best with the U3 U-Bahn to station Olympia Park.

BMW Welt (BMW Museum) Reviews

Peter Swan, Brisbane

We visited the museum in December 2007. Unfortunately it was undergoing renovations at the time and we did not get to see a lot of the older items. Nevertheless, the current model motorbikes and vehicles on show were really interesting as were the many other displays. There were no problems with sitting in the cars or on the motorbikes for a 'photo opportunity'. The shop was a little expensive but was all specific BMW material. They even had BMW bicycles. All in all, it was worth the visit which was free.
