If you want to experience a really traditional Dublin watering hole on your trip, the type of place that James Joyce may have once stopped in then try the Stags Head.
It certainly looks the part and in fact according to the pub's own marketing material the young Joyce was once indeed a regular. The pub originates back to the 1870s and it retains an elegant Victorian ambience. If the Stags Head looks familiar it is because it has featured in Guinness advertisements and number of movies, it is just the quintessential Dublin pub location.
With an upstairs bar recently added to cater to demand, there are now bars across three floors. It goes without saying that the Guinness here is one of the best available anywhere, and the traditional style cooking is of a high-standard. Live traditional music plays from Thursday until Sunday.
