The Antiekmarkt De Looier is a market completely devoted to antiques. It has the benefit of being an enclosed market, which makes it a very pleasant environment to browse through the wonderful array of antiques.
A wide variety of antique goods including furniture, jewelry, artworks, collectables, crockery and a huge number of curios are for sale.
The markets are open every day of the week except for Friday. Wednesdays and the weekend can be good times to visit as members of the public are permitted to set up their own stalls and sell their own private antiques. Be prepared for larger crowds especially at the weekend.
The markets have been around for about 30 years and started when a group of small scale antique dealers who could not afford to set up their own antique shops banded together. As a result, the market contains a very diverse mix of goods dispersed over 70 stands, one or two large establishments and numerous well presented glass displays. At first, the layout of the building may look slightly chaotic but the narrow walkways add to the ambience of the place.
It is a great way to spend a few hours. Even if you have no intentions of buying, browsing through the antique books or looking at the train and doll antiques can be very entertaining. An antique souvenir may be just the thing you are looking for as a reminder of your time in Amsterdam.
There is a café located inside the market and several eateries close by. There is no admission fee.
