Munich lies at the heart of Europe and is easy to reach by plane, either to its own airport or to surrounding airports with quick and easy transport connections.
Munich Airport is one of Lufthansa’s hub cities (the other being Frankfurt), and as such can be reached with a direct flight with Lufthansa from most major cities around the world.
Munich city center can be reached by either S-Bahn or the Lufthansa Airport Bus in around 40 minutes. Trains leave approximately every 10 minutes on two routes (S1 and S8), both of which stop at all main Munich train stations including Marienplatz, Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof. This fact makes it almost impossible to get lost between the Airport and the downtown area. A single train ticket for the journey costs approximately 10€ per person. Another alternative is to take a cab, which is quicker outside of rush hour (journey time approximately 30 minutes) however costs substantially more at around 50€.
Many budget airlines also fly into Munich, making a trip to the city affordable. The following budget airlines all have schedules which include Munich: airBaltic, airberlin, Air Transat, Condor, easyJet, Germanwings, LTU, TUIFly.
If none of the aforementioned flights suit, then there is also the option to fly into other cities that are near Munich. Salzburg, Nuremberg, Innsbruck and Friedrichshafen airports are all within a 2 hour radius of Munich. Munich can be reached from all these airports with regular train services if necessary.
