Vienna is a big city, with much to see. Inside the city itself, public transport can be used to get around, however to see attractions outside of the city, it can often be worth hiring a car. A standard day trip from Vienna is Bratislava in Slovakia, or even Budapest in Hungary which is only a few hours away.
Car Hire is available from a number of locations within the city, as well as the airport and in many surrounding suburbs. Most internationally recognized car hire operators have a branch in Vienna, such as Budget, Avis, Enterprise and Sixt.
Be aware that some car rental companies could put restrictions on what other countries the rental car is allowed to travel to. In almost every case, it is possible to travel to other western European countries such as Austria, Italy, France or Switzerland. However, some companies have restrictions on taking cars into Eastern European countries such as Slovakia, Hungary or the Czech Republic. If travel is intended in any of these countries, it is best to check if this is possible when making a reservation.
