Car Hire is available from a number of locations within the city, as well as the airport and in many surrounding suburbs. Most internationally recognized car hire operators have a branch in Berlin, such as Budget, Avis, Enterprise and Sixt.
It could be argued that a rental car is not necessary for a trip to Berlin. The airport is easily reachable by public transport, and Berlin has an extensive public transport network including Trams, Subways, Buses and suburban railway.
However, there are a number of sights and cities within a few hours of Berlin which can be much more easily visited with the use of a car. The cities of Dresden and Hamburg are both within two hours drive from Berlin, and in summer when the weather is nice, a trip to the Baltic sea can make hiring a car well worth it.
